100% natural Peanut Butter, with 5 added Herbs and Spices recognised as being healthy for Dogs. No Xylitol, Palm Oil, Sugar or Salt

This is Woofie, our much missed, cheeky Cocker Spaniel.  He loved Peanut Butter hidden in his toys, and would play for hours, getting every last bit.

We never thought about the health aspects of giving him Peanut Butter, but fortunately by pure chance,  what we gave him wasn't harmful.  We now know that some Peanut Butters can contain 3 ingredients that you just shouldn't give to your dog .... however much they beg !!

Xylitol, Palm Oil and Chocolate products should not be given to dogs.  This is why ...

Xylitol ... any brand of peanut butter that contains xylitol in the ingredients listing, either alongside of sugar or instead of it, should never be given to dogs. Xylitol is an artificial sweetening agent that is used in place of sugar in a wide range of products, from artificial sweeteners for tea and coffee to sugar-free chewing gum, to some cakes, diabetic sweets and other products too.

Xylitol is perfectly safe for humans to eat, but it is very toxic to dogs, even in very low amounts. Just .1gram of xylitol per kg of the dog’s weight can lead to a rapid and dangerous blood: sugar drop, which is known as hypoglycaemia. This can present with symptoms including disorientation, weakness, collapse and even seizures, and requires urgent veterinary attention.

Just a slightly higher dose of .5grams of xylitol per kg of the dog’s weight can lead to rapid onset permanent liver damage, which can ultimately prove fatal.

Palm oil... is another product that some brands of peanut butter (usually those at the lower end of the price spectrum) use to substitute the more expensive peanut oil in their products, and while palm oil is not toxic or harmful to dogs in the same way that xylitol is, it is still best avoided. However, if your dog has just a spoonful of peanut butter with palm oil every now and then, they should not suffer from any ill effects.

Fed in large quantities, palm oil can lead to stomach upsets and diarrhoea, due to the high level of saturated vegetable fats contained within it, making it very rich and fatty, and so both high in calories and possibly, too rich for the digestive system of some dogs.

Information about Xylitol and Palm Oil in Peanut Butter for dogs has been taken from www.pets4homes.co.uk

Chocolate ... We all think that a little Chocolate won't harm our dog, and don't they love it.  We thought about creating a Chocolate Peanut Butter for dogs, until we did some research.  Any human Chocolate is toxic to dogs. The component in chocolate that is toxic to dogs is called theobromine. Humans easily metabolise theobromine, but dogs process it much more slowly allowing it to build up to toxic levels in their system.  A small amount of chocolate will probably just give your dog an upset stomach. They may vomit or have diarrhoea. Large amounts will have a more serious effect. In sufficient quantities, theobromine can produce muscle tremors, seizures, an irregular heartbeat, internal bleeding or a heart attack.

WE HAVE ADDED BASIL ...  which is chock full of essential minerals and vitamins. It also has phytonutrients, electrolytes and essential oils that are needed for good health. It is anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory, and it is also an antioxidant. It is well known for preventing a variety of harmful diseases, and also promoting good health. It can be given fresh, or dry, and can be incorporated into your dog’s regular daily dietary intake.

WE HAVE ADDED CARAWAY SEEDS... which are rich in fibre, and they also have essential vitamins and minerals. Disease and cancer fighting antioxidants are also found in these seeds. Another perk of caraway seeds is that they help their body to stay warm. They help to promote good muscle health, and typically have a good taste that dogs are sure to love.

WE HAVE ADDED CINNAMON ... which actually has a lot of great properties that will benefit your dog. For example, it is an anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant. It also helps to fight sepsis and diabetes in your dog. Cinnamon is one of the best sources for antioxidants, and it can help to remove the aflatoxins that are found in your dog’s food. It also fights halitosis, or bad breath in dogs. Ground cinnamon is easy to add into your pet’s food, and it won’t alter the taste too much either.

WE HAVE ADDED GINGER ... which is actually an anti-inflammatory, and it also has antibacterial properties. It helps aid in absorption of food, and boosts the digestive system. It is also a great way to treat motion sickness, because it helps to sooth nausea. Some pet owners even give it to their pets to help boost circulation. It can either be served finely chopped, or dried and ground.

WE HAVE ADDED PARSLEY ... Parsley is another one of the great herbs for dogs, because it is high in antioxidants, fiber, vitamins and minerals. It can help to fight against cancer and enhance the functionality of your pup’s organs. It can also help to fight against halitosis and flush toxins out of the body
